Retinal electrophysiology in central nervous system disorders. A review of human and mouse studies

چکیده

The retina and brain share similar neurochemistry neurodevelopmental origins, with the retina, often viewed as a “window to brain.” With retinal measures of structure function becoming easier obtain in clinical populations there is growing interest using findings potential biomarkers for disorders affecting central nervous system. Functional biomarkers, such electroretinogram, show promise neurological disorders, despite having limitations imposed by existence overlapping genetic markers, traits or effects medications that may reduce their specificity some conditions. This narrative review summarizes principal functional system related mouse models provides background main excitatory inhibitory neurotransmitters have been implicated explain visual electrophysiological findings. These changes contribute our understanding these conditions based on tests flash, pattern, multifocal electroretinograms, electro-oculogram. It likely future applications signal analysis machine learning algorithms will offer new insights into pathophysiology, classification, progression including autism, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, bipolar schizophrenia, depression, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease. New electrophysiology this field lead earlier, more accurate diagnoses better targeted therapeutic interventions benefiting individual patients clinicians managing individuals families.

Review of the Aspergillosis and Report A Case of its Central Nervous System

SUMMARY Because Aspergillus SP. are one of the most common airborne fungal contaminants in all parts of the world, the incidence of Aspergillosis is relatively high, but will not be diagnosed in some cases. In this survey we decided to review the importance of Aspergillosis and also to report a case of its Central Nervous system involvement in a patient without Immunodeficiency.

The Role of Mammalian Target of Rapamycine Signaling Pathway in Central Nervous System Cancers: A Review

Mammalian mechanistic target of rapamycine (mTOR) is a conserved serine/threonine kinase in the cellular PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. This pathway is modified by cellular alterations such as level of energy, growth factors, stresses, as well as the increased environmental level of cancerous cytokines. In general, increase of this kinase protein function is seen in various types of cancers, ...

O 14: Differentiating Demyelinating Disorders of the Central Nervous System – a Focus on Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis-Optica Spectrum Disorders

Significant advances have been made in diagnosis and therapy of demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. The most common entities of this disorders in adults – multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica were initially thought to be different phenotypes of more or less the same disease. During the last ten years, this view was subsequently changed and the term neuromyelitis ...

Retinal Electrophysiology Is a Viable Preclinical Biomarker for Drug Penetrance into the Central Nervous System

Objective. To examine whether retinal electrophysiology is a useful surrogate marker of drug penetrance into the central nervous system (CNS). Materials and Methods. Brain and retinal electrophysiology were assessed with full-field visually evoked potentials and electroretinograms in conscious and anaesthetised rats following systemic or local administrations of centrally penetrant (muscimol) o...
